Shell keyboard shortcuts

Cursor left and right Move through the command line word by word
Tab Tab Get suggestions (on commands and their arguments)
Cursor up and down Browse the command history
Ctrl+R Start search in the command history
Ctrl+C Abort running command / Start a fresh command line
Ctrl+C Ctrl+D, exit Close the shell and the terminal window

Tools to make your life easier

ssh [computer] Connect to another computer
ssh [computer] [command] Start [command] on a remote [computer] (compute server or other workstations)
mc Start Midnight Commander file manager
screen Protect program in remote shells against local crashes
top or htop Show running processes on your computer
