The IT maintenance window

Once a month, the servers providing several IT services are re-started. Reasons for that include:

• Installing security patches
• Implementing new software technologies that cannot be added while users are logged in.
• Fix non-urgent hardware problems (urgent ones are repaired right away but most servers can tolerate some broken components for a while).

The maintenance windows is

• On the first Wednesday of each month
• from 7am to 9am

Affected services are:

• Remote access (RemoteLinux)
• Compute servers (ComputeLinuxIT)
• Sometimes file servers are re-started as well but this will only cause delay. It won't Interrupt computations.

Make sure to have all data saved before the maintenance window!
