Here are some common IT issues and troubleshooting steps for seminar rooms at our institute:
Problem: The Projector/TV Shows a Black Screen
- Turn on both the Projector and the TV (Both must be turned on for optimal functionality)
- Restart the computer (ensure all screens are on before the computer starts).
- Check the HDMI cables (some staff members may unauthorized unplug Display cables, which cause issues).
Problem: No Sound from the Speakers
- Check if the volume is muted on the computer, projector, or sound system.
- Ensure that the correct audio output device is selected on the computer.
- Verify that the audio cables are securely connected to the computer and speakers.
- Restart the computer (In some cases, Windows may fail to recognize audio devices).
Problem: Cannot Connect to the internet
- Check if the network cable is plugged it correctly on the computer.
- Restart the computer (In some cases, Windows may fail to recognize network devices).
Problem: Projector/TV Remote Not Working
- Ensure the remote has fresh batteries.
- Check for any obstructions between the remote and the projector/TV.
- Verify that the remote is pointed towards the projector/TV's receiver.
Problem: Computer Won't Turn On
- Ensure the power cables are securely connected to the computer and the power outlet.
- Check if there's a power switch on the computer or monitor that needs to be turned on.
Problem: Can't See the Presentation on the Projector/TV
- Confirm that the correct input source HDMI is selected on the projector/TV.
- Check if the computer is set to extend or duplicate the display (Windows key + P on Windows).
Problem: Can't Read USB Drive/External Device
- Try plugging the USB drive into a different USB port.
- Check if the USB drive is recognized on another computer to rule out a faulty drive.
- Verify that the file format of the USB drive is compatible with the seminar room computer.
Problem: Computer Running Slowly
- Close unnecessary applications and browser tabs.
- Restart the computer to clear memory and processes.
Problem: Icons Displayed on the Wrong Screen
If your icons are appearing on a screen other than the main screen, you can primary the main screen using the following steps:
1. Open Display Settings:
- Right-click on an empty area of your desktop.
- Select "Display settings" from the context menu.
2. Identify Displays:
- In the Display Settings window, you will see a visual representation of all connected displays, each labeled with a number (e.g., 1, 2, 3).
3. Select the Primary Screen:
- Click the numbered box you wish to be your main display.
- Scroll to the bottom and check the box that says, "Make this my main display". The other monitor will automatically become the secondary display.
